Unit 1: Intro To Anatomical Terminology
Well to start off Unit one we should start off with what anatomy and physiology. well Physiology is the study of the function of body parts and the body as a whole. Some specializations within each of these sciences follow: Gross (macroscopic) anatomy is the study of body parts visible to the naked eye, such as the heart or bones. Histology is the study of tissues at the microscopic level.
The Photo above is showing the different levels of organization in a human.
The sagittal plane is the plane that divides the body or an organ vertically into right and left sides.
The frontal plane is the plane that divides the body or an organ into an anterior (front) portion and a posterior (rear) portion. The frontal plane is often referred to as a coronal plane.
The transverse plane is the plane that divides the body or organ horizontally into upper and lower portions. Transverse planes produce images referred to as cross sections.
The diagram below is showing all the different body cavities in the human body.

In the the body there is two layers of skin, they are called visceral and parietal membranes the difference between the two are that the parietal membranes face an outer wall, and visceral membranes face an inner wall. In between the membranes is a space. As shown below.
The 9 different abdominopelvic cavity regions are are: 1 epigastric - located in the right upper quadrant 2 right hypochondriac - located in the right upper quadrant 3 umbilical - located centrally in the right/left quadrant 4 right lumbar - located in right lower quadrant 5 hypogastric located in right lower quadrant 6 right iliac - located in right lower quadrant 7 left hypochondriac - left upper quadranrt 8 left lumbar - left lumbar - left lower quadrant 9 left iliac - left lower quadrant
